Consultation Documents
Consultation on investigations into infections in pregnancy
Antenatal Screening Wales is seeking views on a guidance document advising on investigations into potential infections in pregnancy.
This is an area where clarity for midwives and doctors providing care is welcomed, and there are many benefits to an all-Wales approach to this issue.
Public Health Wales, clinical specialists and Antenatal Screening Wales have produced a basic guidance document for consultation, which aims to:
- raise awareness of the issues
- provide advice on the tests that should be taken to look for infections when ultrasound findings might suggest a problem
- reduce unnecessary testing, and
- support the development of National Protocols to be embedded into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
The document was presented at an all-Wales workshop and was revised following discussions with stakeholders.
Antenatal Screening Wales has previously developed standards and protocols relating to routine antenatal screening for HIV, hepatitis B, syphilis and rubella susceptibility in pregnancy. These standards and protocols are now well established in maternity services throughout Wales.
Please send all consultation responses by the 28th October to:
